16 JulSophia

I said the other day that I needed a name for my bike and it just came to me now.

Her name is Sophia.

15 JulAnother productive night for Jacqueline Tiberius Hemmings!

15 JulWork, work… or not.

My job is seriously fucking boring some days. If people aren’t out doing dumb shit and hurting themselves, it makes my life somewhat mediocre.

Today, for instance, we’ve had about 3 patients and it’s already lunchtime. We happen to have a student with us for this week so she gets to do all the examinations. It is great for the practice and experience for her but it means that poor Tari misses out on the excitement. At the moment I have about 80 radiologists reports sitting on my desk that need to be sorted and scanned but if I sit down and do them all at once, I will have nothing to do later. So instead I am doing it little by little in between wasting time on fixing up my blog and prettying up my new Twitter page (I’m going to blame Kez for that one but the truth is that I really am *that* bored).

What I wouldn’t give for a nice multi trauma.*

*Please note: The authour of this blog does not wish this upon anyone, they just happen to be really exciting from a radiography point of view.

Please don’t smite me Karma.

11 JulI am so SMRT!

I discovered that by pulling a long skirt over your Hello Kitty pj pants and tucking them into the top your 20-hole Docs, you can stay nice and warm when you get called into work at 2 am without looking like a dag.

09 JulMy (New) Precious

Shiny!

Sophia

P.S. – Need to think of a name for her.

09 JulThings I learnt from today’s ride.

I got my new bike today and took her out on her maiden spin. Fuck, she is a sexy (and speedy!) little machine! During that half-hour I learned many things:

  1. I have a looooong way to go before I can achieve my goal of being able to ride 100km.
  2. I need it invest in:
    • a backpack – shoulder bags are a nuiscense
    • a few pairs of longs – bare legs in winter are not fun
    • sunglasses – later afternoon sun and chilly winds are also un-fun
    • gloves -  unprotected hands are susceptible to Raynaud’s phenomenon
    • lights – it gets dark early here
    • bike lock – was too scared to drop by the shops, out of fear of having my bike stolen
    • shoes without laces – a must!
    • cyclometer – so i can log my rides
  3. Sneaky hills are a sneaky. Must make better use of gears.
  4. Some road users are cunts. Always be alert.
  5. Longer warm ups are necessary to avoid burnout.
  6. Heaters left on by housemates make the living areas unpleasant when trying to cool down.
  7. Endorphin-induced highs are the greatest!
  8. Pineapple pieces are a most delicious post-ride snack.

07 JulYou’re fit but you know it!

It’s official, I have dropped below the 85 kg mark, yay! That’s about 12 kgs weight loss since the start of the year (10 kgs since mid-April).

I would say that it is nice to see your hard work paying off, but that’s not exactly the case. I haven’t really put that much effort in so far. I mean, I’ve made some lifestyle changes, especially with regards to my diet. That didn’t have anything to do with losing weight, my tastes have just changed and I don’t find myself emotional/boredom eating that much anymore. I think this has been the biggest help. But essentially, it’s all about the choices you make. I choose not to snack anymore. I choose to opt for healthier alternatives in my diet. I don’t even remember the last time I had a chocolate!

Looking at myself and the results I have managed to achieve with minimal effort, it actually motivates me to do more. I am very excited, actually – I get my brand new bike this weekend. One of my goals (I might talk about these another time) is to get fit but I’ve always found it difficult to exercise with my dodgy hips and knees. Having already lost some weight, I think it’s going to be a bit gentler on them and riding doesn’t put as much strain on them as other things, especially with more gentle long distance riding (as opposed to sprinting). I’d eventually like to be able to ride 100 km but I know this is going to take a long time to get to that level, so I’ve set myself up a training program so I can gradually build up to it.

Here’s hoping I stick to it *cross fingers*

02 JulSomething in the air?

Everyone seems to be getting engaged atm. Wtf is up with that?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m very happy for all of my lovely friends and wish them all the happiness in the world. I am just astonished by the significant number of people who are doing it atm!

Perhaps the swine flu pandemic has made them realise that time is precious and they want to make the most of what they have left before the aporkalypse… *giggle*

*Tired joke I know, but I couldn’t help myself!

02 JulMy ultimate stripper song…

…is Glory Box by Portishead.

Of for the’ WTF?’ factor, Lotion by Greenskeepers

Had a conversation about this with my sister tonight who is currently in the process of making the ‘ultimate stripper song’ playlist instead of packing to drive down to see me tomorrow (how rude!)

30 JunYes, I am slack!

I will not deny it, I am very poor at keeping up with things. Expect for this blog to mostly be updated on Tuesdays (shutdown night) and whenever I get overly bored at work.

Tonight I re-uploaded and added to my Flickr page, however I will eventually get Gallery working and integrate it into here. Will have far less limitations with size, hotlinking etc.

Anywho, here’s the link for my pics – http://www.flickr.com/photos/elentari-starqueen/. I have to go take in the washing then might play some Sims 3.

Ciao!
